MALARIA SHIELD
Malaria remains the leading cause of morbidity and mortality in Niger, particularly affecting children under five and pregnant women. Each rainy season brings a surge in cases due to the lack of insecticide-treated bed nets, delayed diagnosis, stock shortages, distance from health centers, and the socio-economic vulnerability of households.
In response to this situation, ONG LUSAA has launched Bouclier Palu, a structured program aimed at significantly reducing malaria transmission and related deaths.
Overall Objective
Sustainably strengthen the protection of vulnerable populations against malaria through prevention, rapid diagnosis, and access to essential care.
Specific Objectives

-
Massively distribute insecticide-treated bed nets to vulnerable households.
-
Ensure early diagnosis in high-incidence areas.
-
Provide essential treatment kits in high-risk areas.
-
Train community health relays on best practices for malaria prevention and management.
-
Conduct local awareness campaigns in schools, villages, and via local radio stations.
Beneficiaries
-
Children under 5 years old
-
Pregnant women
-
Families living in rural and peri-urban areas
-
Schools and community structures
Expected Impact
-
Reduction in malaria cases during the rainy season.
-
Improved capacity of families to sustainably protect themselves.
-
Decrease in malaria-related infant mortality.
-
Strengthening of community-based surveillance and early diagnosis.
Why Malaria Shield ?
Because every bed net, every rapid diagnostic test, and every trained health worker forms a real shield against one of the deadliest diseases in the country.
This program acts as a health, social, and community barrier, protecting families today and future generations.
